Saving Wildlife with Dikir Barat

Tetapi sayang seribu kali sayang
Ada manusia bersifat kejam
Memburu membunuh tanpa perasaan
Tidak terfikir mengejar kekayaan

WWF dan juga semua
Berganding bahu bekerjasama
Pemburu haram jangan dibela
Banteras mereka yang membinasa
-Jeli Gemilang-

It was the combination of powerful lyricz, surprising dance moves and strong musical backing that earned "Jeli Gemilang". a dikir barat group from Jeli district, the title of "Champion of the Conversation Dikir Barat Competition" in Jeli, Kelantan.
Dikir barat is a traditional musical performance that involves singing in groups of 10 to 15 members, led by a leader and accompanied by traditional musical instruments. As it is a much-loved performance in Kelantan, it is an advantageous way to spread awareness of wildlife conservation. Five other groups, including Wildlife Protection Unit Lubok Bongor, also competed in the first conservation dikir barat contest organised by WWF-Malaysia's "Tiger Alive!" project. Each team was required to perform three songs on issues such as human-wildlife conflict, Islam in conservation as well as poaching and illegal wildlife trade. The Malaysian Conservation Alliance for Tigers (MYCAT) helped in educating the villagers by having a display of tiger skin, bones and medicines claimed to contain tiger parts. The Wildlife Crime Hotline (019-356 4194) was also promoted through the distribution of reusable shopping bags embossed with the number to the crowd. More than 1000 villagers came and watched as each team battled for 15 minutes on stage in Kampung Lubok Bongor, Jeli. The competition was graced by Jeli Department of Wildlife and National Parks Officer Hazlin Qozek and State Assemblyman for Kuala Balah, Aziz Derashid.
