Bahasa Arab adalah sebuah bahasa Semitik yang muncul dari daerah yang sekarang termasuk wilayah Arab Saudi. Bahasa ini adalah sebuah bahasa yang terbesar dari segi jumlah penutur dalam keluarga bahsa Semitik. Bahasa ini berkerabat dengan bahasa Ibrani dan bahasa Aram. Bahasa Arab Moden telah diklasifikasikan sebagai satu makrobahsa dengan 27 sub-bahasa dalam ISO639-3. Bahasa ini dituturkan di seluruh dunia Arab, sedangkan bahasa Arab Baku diketahui di seluruh Dunia Islam. Bahasa Arab Moden berasal dari bahsa Arab Klasik yang telah menjadi bahasa kesusasteraan dan bahasa liturgi Islam sejak lebih kurang abad ke-6. Abjad Arab ditulis dari kanan ke kiri. bahasa Arab telah memberi banyak kosakata kepada bahasa lain dari dunia Islam, sama seperti peranan Latin kepada kebanyakan bahasa Eropah. Semasa Arab Pertengahan, bahasa Arab juga merupakan alat utama budaya terutamanya dalam Sains, Matematik dan Falsafah yang menyebabkan bahasa Eropah turut meminjam banyak kosakata dari bahasa Arab.

Taipei 101 rekabentuk ilham pokok buluh

Menara Taipei 101 di Taiwan yang pernah menjadi bangunan tertinggi selama tiga tahun sebelum diambilalih oleh Burj Khalifa di Dubai pada Januari tahun lalu, dibangunkan mengikut rekabentuk pokok buluh. Bangunan 101 tingkat dibahagian atas dan lima tingkat dibahagian bawah itu dikenali sebagai Pusat Kewangan Antarabangsa Taipei.

Ia dibangunakan oleh seorang arkitek bernama C.Y. Lee dan dibina oleh syarikat KTRT Joint Venture selama lima tahun bermula 1999 sehingga 2004. Binaan tersebut mempunyai kelebihan boleh bertahan dalam gempa bumi dan juga taufan. Antara kemudahan yang terdapat pada bangunan ini adalah seperti aplikasi gentian optik untuk capaian Internet pantas. Disamping itu juga dilengkapi dengan lif berkembar paling laju di dunia dengan kepantasan 63km/j. Pada bahagian dalamnya pula terdapat pasaraya setinggi enam tingkat, kedai-kedai dan juga restoran.

Cry Baby Cry

SHEDDING tears is an action that does not take place until you are about two months old. When you cry, pressure builds up in your head and the flow of blood to the face increases. There are two kinds of tears - Basal tears and emotional tears. Basal tears lubricate your eyeball. The eyeball has a grainy surface, so without the coating of tears, you would not be able to see properly. The tear glands in the eyes produce about ten ounces of basal tears everyday. Reflex tears protect your eyes against irritants like onion fumes and foreign objects. The amount of protein produced by emotional tears is about 20-25 per cent more than other kinds of tears. According to scientists, tears are also a way of communication. Researchers say that ever since ancient times, people who insisted on something by crying usually got what they wanted. So maybe crying has evolved as a means of communication, as people who cried the loudest are most likely to get whatever they want!
